It has been such a breath of fresh air having the entire week of Christmas off from work. Aside from the usual holiday gatherings and traditions, I've been able to reconnect with myself. Before this extended break I would catch myself thinking "well I know I should do ____________, but ____________." This is normal human behavior, but as a health coach, it is extremely frustrating; another reminder that I am human too. There are many things I know I should do that I don't always keep up with such as oil pulling, drinking more water, consistent food prep. These are all fine and dandy but the number one "should-do" that I have (unfortunately) been putting off is yoga. I feel like my body has actually been craving to move more. My biggest excuse for not incorporating a regular yoga routine is time (or lack thereof). I finally got sick of myself saying or thinking that I should do more yoga...what is stopping me? ME! This week, I decided to just do it anyway I could!
I always thought that if I were going to make time for yoga, it was going to be worth it, meaning I would drive a distance to my favorite studio for an hour and a half class with one of my preferred instructors and I'd probably be sore the following day. Boy, was I wrong! Everyday this week, I have searched for a new 20 minute yoga routine on youtube. Sounds lame, right? No way! I totally underestimated the power of an at-home practice. Just 20 minutes a day, I already notice a difference in my flexibility and most importantly- my mood! Total game changer and I'm sorry it took me so long to get over myself about the home practice. What's even better? Savannah has been joining me- double win! I don't have to feel guilty about spending time away from her and we are getting physical activity together. *side note* if you ever want to test your ability to focus and concentrate, try practicing yoga with a 19 month old :) Happy New Year! What "should do" will you be working on in 2018? Meg
