Thinking About Having Another Baby? Here’s How You Can Prepare Your Body…

If you’ve been tossing around the idea of having another baby and are deciding when to take the leap, consider these 3 tips to best prepare your body. Just as a bride-to-be will take months (sometimes years) to plan a wedding, it is crucial to prepare mentally, physically, and emotionally before becoming pregnant.

A few years back, a close friend of mine was experiencing unexplained infertility. As you can imagine it was absolutely devastating for my friend and so painful for family and friends to stand helplessly on the sidelines. While she was struggling I stumbled upon an article that has stuck with me ever since. The article talked about acting like you are already pregnant- eat, drink, hold your belly, and even avoid picking up heavy objects! I think of this as reverse psychology on your body. Women who stress about getting pregnant are sending out hormones and creating an environment where the body doesn’t feel safe to conceive successfully. Long story short, my friend now has 2 beautiful and healthy babies (I’m not attributing her success to this concept only, but I know you all were wondering what happened…). This is just another example of how powerful the mind-body connection is.

Here are my 3 tips for preparing your body for pregnancy:
  1. Cleanse your body
It is ideal to eat clean and remove birth control (pill/IUD) for at least 6 months before conceiving. Eating clean (in its simplest form) means removing processed foods and eating the highest quality foods (organic, non GMO, whole grain, no refined sugar, etc.). Also- HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!

*I am working on a 2 week cleanse at the moment (anyone interested, inquire here)*

     2.    Find Peace
De-stress in a healthy manor (bonus if it involves physical activity). Here are some examples:
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Massage
  • Positive mindset
  • Vacation/stay-cation

     3.    Schedule a check-up with your OBGYN
Let them know you are thinking about getting pregnant and would like a pre-conception evaluation. They will let you know if your reproductive organs are healthy enough to start trying.

These tips should set you up for an exciting journey. What did you do to prepare for your pregnancy?
