Social Media Mom-Stars

I'm 38.5 weeks along with baby #2 and I know this is my last pregnancy so it's really got me thinking lately about all of the social media Mom-Stars out there...

I don't know about you, but my social media feeds are constantly flooded with adorable milestone pictures, perfect pregnancy poses, and consistent countdowns galore. I always thought I would be right there with them, basking in the perfectly filtered photos of instagram- but that's just not me. Shortly after finding out I was pregnant, I hopped on Pinterest trying to "pin" all the cutesy week-by-week pregnancy updates. I wanted all the stickers, all the chalk boards, all the tracker apps, all the milestone blankets and blocks, all the adorable "______ months preggers" shirts- I wanted it all! I had the best intentions, but I knew from my last pregnancy, it was highly unlikely that I would be able to keep up with all of this...and I was right...hmm well maybe I can redeem myself with the baby milestone poses and pictures...wrong again!

I really admire any parent that is able to set some time aside each week to let their creative juices flow and document what they've been craving that particular week or how their sleep cycles have plummeted. Everytime I thought about snapping a picture or two, I would then think, "Well first I'll need to shower, dry my hair, and clean the house. What will I wear? Nothing fits! I don't feel cute and I don't feel like putting makeup on." Then, that would be my 2 year old's queue to ask for something to eat or to read a book, so all bets were off. It's discouraging to scroll through social media and see all the perfectly manicured and styled mamas out there with their big white smiles and "everything is perfect all the time" expressions. News flash...this is not real life! Maybe I should clarify...this is not MY life.

I'm going to make a pledge this year to not compare myself to anyone else, especially the social media Mom-stars. I'm happy, my family is happy, and I don't need to paste a façade all over social media every 24 hours to prove it. Isn't that exhausting? How do you decide what to post on Instagram, Facebook, Insta Live, FB Live, Snapchat, Twitter, and whatever else is out there?! Am I sounding old yet, or is it just me?! I'm going to keep living my life without hesitation and without judgment.

Are you with me??

Meg
